A page out of a tester’s dairy!!

When I changed my career to testing stream, I was apprehensive of my decision. I was not sure if I was making the right choice? Is this decision good for my career? Am I going in the right direction? I listened to my heart which asked me to go ahead with it. In case it turns out to be a failure I would just learn from my mistake. I would definitely be successful if it proves otherwise. With this I started out as a tester in an established company. I thought I knew everything about this field till I actually dirtied my hands testing. In my initial days as tester, I was happy when my test cases passed. I was under the impression that I had to check everything in the application worked as per design. So I was getting thrilled when an application worked as expected. But in the corner of my heart a thought lingered.. Is that it? Or am I missing a trick here!

Only later I realized that there was something more for a Test engineer. I changed my attitude towards Testing. I discovered that the main objective should be to find defects and failures in the software. A tester should not test with an attitude that everything works, he should find the point where the application breaks. I was pleased when I started to find bugs. I was very delighted. Our team of Developers and Testers strive together to deliver a good end product. More defects I find, better the quality of the application, happier the team, more motivated I am.

From the past few weeks I have succeeded in raising a High priority defect which in-turn boosts my confidence and return home with a big smile on my face. A sense of satisfaction is something that I cannot pay no heed to.

My decision has definitely not failed me. There lies a bunch of defects that needs to be uncovered, there lies my motivation!!

Namma Visit to Namma Metro

My first experience with Namma Metro was Absolutely Amazing! Yes it’s a little late but better late than never. The feeling when I entered the Metro station was overwhelming. The environment is totally different. It is as clean as an international airport is! I felt as if I was in non-polluted dust free Bangalore. It reminded me of Malaysia where I had experienced Metro before. I was surprised and was very pleased with the infrastructure of the complete Metro Railways. The ticketing system is hi-tech which makes it impossible for people to travel “without”. I also got to know that there is a guideline which says none can spend more than fifteen minutes inside the station, which avoids the junk food hawkers, beggars and other aimless people loitering around the station. This would be an added advantage for the safety of female crowd that would travel in Metro. The complete concept of high speed railway connection in midst of a bustling city like Bangalore is apt for a fast moving life like ours.

As I entered the Metro Train I noticed a signboard which read ‘Eating and drinking are not allowed’ that reminded me of non-biodegradable polythene covers, torn newspapers, groundnut skins and other eatables often littered around the seats of trains and buses. This makes the compartments neat and clean and also you need not have to feel fussy while choosing a seat. The CCTV cameras and the securities on rounds inside the compartments suffice the security of the onboard passengers. The stop announcement, display screens and the route maps helps a new visitor in the city to travel independently. There is also free wifi connection made available for the passengers which would come in handy to send a quick mail or check your Facebook Updates. On the platform is a yellow line which the passengers are not supposed to go beyond while waiting for the train. One thought that crossed my mind was as seen in the Inter State Railway Stations will people use the tracks to cross platforms in Metro Stations as well? That’s when I noticed the Danger-High voltage sign board on the railway track which should keep people away from it. Time taken to reach Byyapanahalli station from MG road is less than 15 minutes. Had we ever dreamt of zipping across the crowded MG road within 2 minutes? Metro has indeed made this happen.

Feeling delighted with the experience I returned thinking Metro is phenomenal bliss to happen for Bangalore. Also I was convinced to say the ownership of sustaining Metro the way it is today fresh and new, lies in each of us. Hoping to witness more connectivity across the city in near future

Well done BMRCL.. Well done Namma Metro!!

Magical words

When we were young we were thought of two magical words, which can make someone feel that they are cared for and they are important. But as we grew up the ego in us also grew making us forget how important and essential these magical words were.

The magical words which I am talking about are “Sorry” and “Thank you”. Sorry is said when we cause inconvenience to someone and Thank you is said whenever get a favor. The inconvenience need not be as big as killing a person or the favor need not be something as big as giving a suite case full of money.

In our day to day life there is someone to whom we are causing inconvenience and there is someone who is doing us a favor. Often, we forget to express our gratitude or regret to them.
We keep our bedroom untidy, creating a complete mess. Its our Mother who clears this mess and keeps everything in its place. Have we ever asked her Sorry for all the troubles which we have caused?

We have our bus drivers who drive safely to our destination everyday, have we ever stopped by to say thank you to them? We have our house keeping team who make sure our cubicles are clean and the facilities we make use is hygiene. They serve us with a smile not once being grumpy. Did we ever think of showing our appreciation to them?

Similar to the ones mentioned above we come across many minute favors and troubles. We all know how an unanticipated sorry or an unexpected thank you goes a long way. Sometimes, they make a day for someone; sometimes, they redefine your attitude towards that person.

It becomes important for us to use these magical words even for the smallest of things. These magical words have the power to melt people and bring a smile on their face. But it works only when told from heart and when you really mean it. Never overlook these things and become too ignorant, it at least makes someone smile even in their rush hour.
